International symbol for distress is to fly the ensign upside down.

For the US flag this is easy to detect.



But with the UK flag, how can you tell?



Or does the UK have another symbol they use?

Back in the days of the red and blue ensign on ships at sea, it would be as easy as with the US flag. But for shore facilities and nowadays, there must be something else.
